Bee Brothers (Romeoville)

This week we hit up Bee Brothers in Romeoville. Remember that each week, the person selecting the restaurant prepares a conversation-starter question. This week's question was about elementary school memories. As the school year has come to a close, we can’t think of a more summery, sun-shiney place to kick off summer vacation than Bee Brothers.

BEHIND OUR RATINGS

Food Quality: ⭐⭐⭐ ⭐ [4/5]

There's a lot to love here, with imaginative honey dishes and seasonal items rounding out a breakfast-and-lunch menu. Across the table, the standouts were Kay's bacon avocado omelet, Court's honey lavender latte, and my chicken mandarin salad. Good coffee (though our cups ran dry and we had to request refills).

Service: ⭐⭐⭐ [3/5]

OK. Our server didn't introduce herself, nor was she overly warm. She wasn’t rude or anything, maybe just a little more transactional than we typically encounter.

Atmosphere: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ [5/5]

We absolutely love it here. It's cute, lemony-yellow, and super bright, with nice big roomy booths, fun neon signage nestled amidst greenery. Very well done for a cheery breakfast place.

Noise Level: ⭐⭐⭐ [3/5]

It's loud. The booths are low and wooden, so the sound bounces off everything.

Value for Money: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ [5/5]

We ordered a lot, specialty drinks included, and the price was reasonable for it. You can splurge here.

Wait Time: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ [4/5]

We got right in, though we also came early knowing it's a busier place.

Kid-Friendly: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ [5/5]

Kids menu with chicken tenders and fries. All good.

WHAT WE ORDERED

Court ordered coffee, which he found to be good (on the mild side). He also got the spring honey lavender latte, which was outstanding: mixed perfectly sweet with just a little lavender kiss on the aftertaste. For his entree he had the spring berry blossom French toast, two slices sandwiched with mascarpone in the middle. Really good and very sweet. The toast itself was only okay and a bit dry, but enough of the good stuff was mixed in that the whole thing worked.

Kay had the bacon avocado omelet with chihuahua cheese, which was very good. Her well-done, crispy hash browns were perfect, exactly how she likes them, and her honey biscuit was delicious. The coffee was decent, though our server wasn’t as quick on the refills.

As for me (Bridget), I decided to break the mold since they serve breakfast and lunch all day, so I ordered the chicken mandarin salad. It had raisins, cranberries, apples, avocado, chicken, blue cheese, candied pecans, and a lemon vinaigrette. It was really good and I took the extra home. I also had the lavender iced tea, which was good, but by comparison I regretted not going after one of the other show-stopper drinks they have cooked up for summer.

Sunny got the chicken tenders and fries and thought they were really good. For context, these are the bigger, hunkier tenders with large crumbles on the coating, as opposed to the flat, thin-coated kind.
