EggCited
It all begins with an idea.
This week we hit up Egg-Cited Restaurant in Naperville, and we are excited to share our experience! This is a very humble place - they're not trying to be anything fancy. It's comfortable and unassuming. The get to know you question for our group was if they made a movie about your life, what kind of movie would it be and who would play you? I think if they made a movie about EggCited, it’d be a well-loved place with great food (think Seinfeld diner maybe?)

BEHIND OUR RATINGS
Food Quality: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ [4/5]
4 out of 4 SSBC’ers loved what they selected. They have a great menu with very tasty food and drink options, dishes are well-executed and thoughtfully prepared. The sauce-to-stuff ratio (an important one and an area where breakfast places get hung up) was appropriate too. Coffee was only OK though, and that is what kept us from a 5 star food rating.
Service: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ [5/5]
Our server Caitlin (sp?) was absolutely fantastic. She did everything a good server does (including keeping our cups filled, managing our expectations when the Sunday morning rush meant drinks would be a few minutes behind, etc) but you could also just tell she’s authentically a people person.
For example, we’ve been at this for 16 weeks now. Caitlin was the first person in all of our excursions to not only notice our shirts, but inquire about SSBC and take genuine interest. And it's clear she's a fan favorite. For example, a gentleman from one of her tables came up to her while she was taking our order and placed cash for her tip into her apron pocket - it wasn’t “ick” per se but it was definitely awkward. She didn’t embarrass him at all, she was gracious in thanking him and then effortlessly redirected back to us. A lesser person would have been at least tripped-up, if not annoyed. Not Caitlin. She is a PRO and that feels like a dying attribute.
Atmosphere: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ [4/5]
It's dated and not winning any beauty contests. That said, they have great big roomy booths with sound extenders so you really feel like you're in your own world. We just love that at SSBC - it creates such a wonderful little world for your party to really connect with one another.
Noise Level: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⭐ [5/5]
We were in one of those little booth worlds, so we had no trouble connecting with one another, even on a busy Sunday morning.
Value for Money: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ [5/5]
Price tag was quite reasonable, and the quality was outstanding.
Wait Time: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ [5/5]
We got right in, no issues.
Kid-Friendly: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ [5/5]
Kids menu with chicken fingers, great drinks, and a very engaging server (including with our son).

WHAT WE ORDERED
Kay had the lemon blueberry pancakes, which were really quite good. There was lemon in the pancake batter with blueberries on top, and there were plenty of them so it didn't feel dry.
Court had the cookie butter latte, a specialty of theirs, which he found to be outstanding. He also had the hash stack. It’s a quintessential breakfast pile of all the good breakfast things: hash browns with eggs on top, sausage, gravy, bacon, and completely covered in cheese. Served with little squares of cinnamon toast in absolutely perfect proportion. Everything about it was incredibly tasty: it was ample and he ate the entire thing.
As for me, I had the raspberry chocolate pancakes. I was skeptical since raspberries are quite hard to find in good shape right now. They were phenomenal! The sauce especially was invigorating, flavorful, tangy, and zingy. The raspberry really came through. The raspberries are baked into the batter as well. The sauce to pancake ratio was perfect. (I said it once before but it bears repeating now.)
Sunny had the Oreo mint shake, which was delightful - a very good flavor combination. He also had chicken tenders and fries, and they were very, very good. He ate all of them. The chicken was nice fluffy white meat with a really thin crunchy coating (excellent). The fries were prepared perfectly.
____
THE BOTTOM LINE
Our Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ [4/5]
What Made Us Smile:
Caitlin made a good experience into a great one. We would return for the food, and we would ask to be seated in Caitlin's section (I believe she only works on Sundays).
What Could Be Better:
We felt the coffee option could use an upgrade. If the food is the heart of a breakfast place, well then coffee is the central nervous system.
Will the SSBC Be Back?
We absolutely will, and we look forward to it. Do yourself a favor and check this place out.
